Emma-Payne Carson Emma-Payne Carson, 89, of Charleston, W.Va., died Saturday, August 31, 2013, in Charlottesville, Va., after a short illness. She recently had been staying at The Lodge at Old Trail in Crozet. She was a homemaker, and lifelong resident of Charleston, W.Va., as well as a member of First Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed serving her community through her involvement with the University of Charleston Builders, the Junior League, and the National Society of Colonial Dames. Although not a gardener, she enjoyed visiting beautiful gardens. She raised African violets, keeping her collection blooming constantly. During her last several years her minature Yorkie, Happy, provided her with lots of joy. Emma-Payne graduated from National Cathedral School in Washington, D.C., and spent an exciting year in New York City at Finch Junior College. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years, R. Emerson Carson; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. Collett Littlepage. She is survived by her son, Skip and his wife, Mary Beth of Charleston; and daughter, Linda Goodling and her husband, Rick of Charlottesville, Va; granddaughters, Katie Goodling and her fiancee, Anup Shrinivasan of Charlotte, N.C, and Megan Carson Kilb, her husband, Dr. Edward Kilb III; and great-grandson Carson Edward Kilb of Charleston, South Carolina. Services were held Saturday September 7, 2013, in Charleston, West Virginia, attended by numerous friends and family members. A celebration of Emma- Payne's life will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, September, 29, 2013, at The Lodge at Old Trail. ln lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Nelson County's Almost Home Animal Shelter, Thomas Jefferson Area Food Bank or the charity of your choice.
