Funeral services celebrating the life of Emma Hoen, age 91 of Norwood Young America will be/were held at 11:00 AM Wednesday June 13, 2007 at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Norwood Young America. Officiating will be/was the Rev. David Winter. The organist will be/was Arthur Fuchs. The soloist will be/was Lawrence Biermann who sang “So nimm denn meine haende” The congregational hymns will be/were “How Great Thou Art”, “Amazing Grace” and “Rock Of Ages”. Serving as casket bearers will be/were Patty Krebsbach, Pam Ostman, Troy Hoen, Dan Hoen, Eric Hoen, Corey Hoen and Jamie Engelmann. The honorary casket bearers will be/were all of Emma’s grandchildren. Interment will be/was in the church cemetery. Visitation will be/was Tuesday evening 4-8 PM with a prayer service at 7:30 PM at the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Norwood Young America.
Emma Helen (Harms) Hoen was born April 21, 1916 the daughter of J. Henry and Marie (Proehl) Harms in Benton Township of Carver County. She was baptized on April 26, 1916 at the Zion Lutheran Church of Benton Township. Emma attended the Zion Lutheran School. On April 13, 1930 she was confirmed in the faith by at Zion Lutheran. On June 15, 1939 Emma was united in marriage with Herbert Hoen. The couple made their home for a short time on the Harm’s family farm before moving to Norwood. Emma suffered the death of her husband in September of 1964. She had worked for the White Elephant before opening her own business, the Norwood Café. Emma had also worked at Harm’s Bar. Emma enjoyed crocheting and needlework, playing cards and fishing. Her family was very important to Emma and she cherished the time spent with the many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
On Friday June 8, 2007 Emma Hoen entered her eternal rest at the Elim Nursing Home in Watertown at the age of 91 years, 1 month and 17 days. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter June Hoen, two infant grandchildren, great grandson Michael Strait, one sister and five brothers.
Emma is survived by her children Dorothy Jasper (husband: Donald) of Chaska, Shirley Ekstrom (husband: Merrill) of Chaska, Herbert Hoen (wife: Diane) of Lester Prairie, Robert Hoen (wife: Jane) of Norwood Young America, Ken Hoen (wife: Marilyn) of Norwood Young America, Gerald Hoen (wife: Judy) of Norwood Young America, Roxanne Engelmann (husband: Richard) of Green Isle; great grandchildren Patty Krebsbach (husband: Pete), Cindy Marcotte (special friend: Jeff), Steve Raduenz (special friend: Barb), Connie Broker (husband: Greg), Russ Raduenz (special friend: Chris), Nancy Brown (husband: Loren), Kevin Miller (wife: Teri), Pam Ostman (husband: Don), Barb Schoenrock (husband: Chuck), Jeff Ekstrom (wife: Tami), Troy Hoen, Tina Hoen (special friend: Joe), Tricia Hoen, Dan Hoen (wife: Deb), Tom Hoen (wife: Ann), Eric Hoen, Emmalee Neubarth (husband: Tim), Corey Hoen, Dustin Hoen, Katie Hoen, Jamie Engelmann and Sammie Jo Engelmann; twenty four great grandchildren; one great great grandson; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law Ann Wiebel of Mound, Gilbert and Katherine Hoen of Waconia; as well as other relatives and many friends.
