Emma NICHOLAS Obituary

NICHOLAS (Attal),
Emma Lorraine
On January 10, 2017, Emma Lorraine (Attal) Nicholas gained her angel wings and soared to her Heavenly Home joining her loving husband of 67 years, Bob Nicholas, who preceded her in death less than three years earlier.

Emma was born in Austin, Texas on 9-10-28 to Tom and Frances Attal, eventually becoming one of 5 siblings to Tommy Attal (deceased), Bernice Joseph (deceased), Doris Potts and Mary Risica. Emma married the love of her life, Bob Nicholas, on 11-15-1946 celebrating their 67th anniversary before his passing on 4-6-14. They made Austin Texas their lifelong home where they raised their children Robert Thomas Nicholas and Laura Ann Nicholas Roberts. Emma devoted her life to taking care of her family. Her devotion to family was of foremost importance in her life. She was an exceptionally gifted cook of all foods but especially those of her Lebanese heritage. She made certain that the recipes and techniques were passed on to her descendants so others may continue to enjoy what she learned from her elders. Emma's father, Tom Attal, built the St. Elias Orthodox Church building and was instrumental in forming the first congregation. He was a lifelong devoted and active member, passing that passion on to Emma who was also a lifelong member and active in church activities. Emma was also an integral part of the planning, cooking and overseeing the annual St. Elias Greek festivals.

Emma is survived by son Robert (Bob) Nicholas and wife Sally, daughter Laura Roberts, sisters Doris Potts and Mary Risica, 5 grandchildren, Falon {Nicholas)DiII and husband Tony, Jessica {Nicholas)Keas, Jennifer {Nicholas)Morgan, Douglas Roberts and wife Rochelle, Lauren (Roberts) Hartsook and husband James,S great-grandchildren, Rylinn and Palmer Dill, Benjamin Hartsook, Sawyer Roberts and Brooklyn Onkst and many loving extended family members and friends, all of whom loved her in life and love her still.

Visitation will be Sunday 1-15-17 at Cook Walden Funeral Home on North Lamar Blvd, Austin Texas from 4-5pm followed by a service by Father David Barr from 5-6 pm. Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Monday 1-16-17 at St. Elias Orthodox Church with Father David Barr of St. Elias presiding. Burial will follow at Assumption Cemetery on South IH 35. Arrangements are by Cook Walden.

Pallbearers will be Tony Dill, Douglas Roberts, James Hartsook, Howard Joseph, Anthony Rizzo and John Pollett.

The family would also extend their most heartfelt appreciation to those healthcare professionals who gave oftheir time and love in taking excellent care of our mother, special thanks to all of you, Josie Estrada, Tracy Gross, and Dana Garza. We also appreciate the care administerred by the professionals of St. Davids Hospital.

Emma considered me a bad influence on her Bob. He was a ball player, eventually settled on bowling. She had a strong personality, a good mind and a deep love for her faith. Some of it rubbed off on me. She reluctantly let me visit Bob at home after he could no longer navigate the steps at St. Elias. Godspeed, Emma. We will remember you fondly.
