I shared a wall with Judge Smith for at least a couple years in the Pittsburgh Social Security hearing office. I was the supervisory attorney of the ALJ group in which he was placed. Many things come to mind but most relevant and important are the numerous late night conversations when everyone had gone home and Manny just stood in my doorway and we talked about many things, including Tom Waits, my adventures in New Orleans, and Sports. Manny Smith will be remembered for his kindness and good heart. He will not be forgotten because he cared a lot about every human being.

My deepest condolences to Mrs. Smith and family. I worked with Judge Smith for many years in the Pittsburgh hearing office.

You have been very kind to me and I can't imagine the weight of the pain you bear. I pray God to give you the strength to go through this difficult time. Be rest assured that he is in a better place where there is no pain or sorrow. I just want you to know that I'm standing with you. You are not alone.

Manny was my first cousin from Tyler, TX. He had a brilliant mind and was always interesting to talk to. We will all miss him and will have many great memories. Love to all the family.
