I remember some years ago I was about to leave my house (to go out to dinner I think) when the phone rang. The voice announced "I'm Emmett B. Thrasher from Trussville, AL". Turns out he was a hawbottom Johnson family cemetery descendant and somehow found me. I was taking care of the cemetery at the time (11 years in all). We had a delightful conversation and I am sad to hear of his passing.

I was only able to speak with Bruce a few times in the last couple of years. He will remain my mentor in the labor movement. His leadership in the USWA organizing efforts at the Newport News Shipyard marks one of the great successes in the past 4 decades. It was Bruce who made all the difference. I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Mr. Thrasher. He was a customer of mine at my flower shop and I remember him as being a very nice man and always doing for others.
