Ennis Ray Tompkins
Plain Dealing, LA- Funeral services for Mr. Ennis Ray Tompkins , age 81, will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, January 23, 2016, at the Plain Dealing Baptist Church, Plain Dealing, Louisiana, with Dr. James Hill, Dr. Chad Hardbarger and Bro. Wayne Craig officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery in Plain Dealing under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Plain Dealing, Louisiana.
Visitation will be held Friday, January 22, 2016, 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm at the funeral home in Plain Dealing.
Mr. Tompkins was born on April 3, 1934 to Cue and Willie Law Tompkins in Vivian, LA and passed away on Wednesday, January 20, 2016 in Plain Dealing. Mr. Tompkins was a resident of Plain Dealing from 1967 to 2016 and a faithful member of Plain Dealing Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving in Germany during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Tompkins was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was also well known in Plain Dealing, as a blueberry farmer for over 29 years.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Shelia Tompkins; daughter, Jan Burke and husband, Bill of Grayson, GA; two granddaughters, Katee Robertson and husband, Drew of Grayson, GA, Jessi Berndt and husband, Chas, of Atlanta, GA; two great-granddaughters, Abby Rae Robertson and Emma Kate Robertson; his beloved dogs, Chip and Puddles and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Mr. Tompkins was preceded in death by his parents; son, Norman Tompkins; mother of his children, Frankie Norman Tompkins; and a brother, Dell Tompkins.
Pallbearers will be Stephen Tompkins, Kevin Tompkins, Destry Tompkins, Jacob Fredieu, Andrew Jennings, William Weems, Tommy Boggs and Billy Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be Jackie Byrd, Obie Hamiter, Eddie Chandler, Raymond Hamiter, Bill Rochelle, Charlie Brashier and Lanny Brashier.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Plain Dealing Baptist Church, or St. Jude Children's Hospital.
