Eric was a huge influence on me. He was a great teacher at Brinkman-Froemming Umpire School in 1997 and then mentored me while he was on the road during his AAA season and I was working high school and college baseball. We talked on the phone while he was on the road at his hotels about baseball and life. When he and his crew were in Nashville, my friends and I would go watch him work and then enjoy dinner after the game with them. The most special to me is when he called me form his home...
