While grammar school age, Eric and I would get together to play massive sessions with matchbox cars. We would carefully take turns choosing the ones we wanted after setting up full towns by propping books together. It was multi-scale playing, too. We would switch from operating the cars to pretending we had entered buildings on foot, at which time we would put on a record, turn on a strobe light, and fake fight and dance. We hid how much we did these activities as we grew older because we didn't want others thinking we were childish. Now I do these things with my own daughter with those same cars, powered by these memories of EJ.

For some 34 years everytime I would speak to Eric on the phone, either he or I would ask the other if it was "time to go to Hartsville," before we proceeded with the conversation. At age 14 I had awoken him from a deep sleep during an overnight and he had jumped up quick and asked me that question while still mostly asleep. It stuck and remained a point we laughed about many times. The guy had such a sense of humor. He also called me tater head a lot, which I carry on as a nick name for my daughter. I am so glad to have known him.

We would hop on our bikes and meet halfway in between each of our houses along a red clay dirt road. In this month of Eric's birth I recall the fall leaves that would be coloring the trees and adding excitement to those bike rides.

Miss your humor and ur USC excuses lol , but especially today the anniversary of the day your life began Please God keep your hand on Susan , Chapell and Chandler to let them know it's thru your loving care that we get some relief thru our faith in you and that we will see each other again one day in heaven on your terms today not ours , but until then please keep your loving arm on everyone's shoulder during the healing of such loss , Eric is truly missed

Susan, I am so sorry to hear of Eric's passing. I was shocked and saddened to see his obituary in the Chapin Times. I will fondly remember Eric as a wonderful neighbor, devoted father and loving husband. And above all, a godly man.

Eric became my brother-n-law over two decades ago , only to become great friends , it still doesn't seem true but he still lives on in the three things u don't see that much of in today's times , that's morals ethics and discipline thru his boys , they are both on the right road and are going to carry on his legacy but he'll be watching from the higher seats , I wish I was half the man he was
