Dr. O'Brien operated on my mother many years ago. His kindness and compassion and ongoing care helped my mother and our family deal with a difficult diagnosis. I am so sorry for your loss.

Diddy and I were great fans of Eric. He had spirit. Ironically, I was sending him stories, one a day, from a book I was writing when I learned he was in the hospital just to help him pass the day. The unanticipated result was that Eric turned out to be a great editor. He told me in no uncertain terms which one was good and which one was not, and why, and he was right. Sorry he didn't make it to the US Open in Brookline. He was so looking forward to it. Our sympathies to the O'Brien family...
