Send Flowers

Eric Ross''s father said his son wanted to send him a message before his final mission. "He made her promise that if anything happened to him, she was to tell me that I was his hero, which is ironic, because he was my hero and I was very proud of him," said Doug Poor. Ross, 26, of Kenduskeag, Maine, died Feb. 9 of wounds suffered from an explosion in Baqubah. He was assigned to Fort Hood and was on his second tour. His wife, Alison, met Ross about a year ago, while visiting friends in Fort Hood. "When we met, he flirted with me about how we were both from Maine," she said. Soon, they were inseparable. They married on Sept. 28 of last year. Ross shipped out six days later. He enjoyed taking his two children, Trever, 7, and Megan, 4, both from a previous relationship, to a water park in Texas and hanging out on Sunday afternoons watching movies. Eric and Alison were expecting their first child together, a boy. They decided to name him Gabriel Bradley. Bradley is the name of a friend injured during Eric''s first tour in Iraq. She now plans to enroll in college. "He would have liked that," she said.

To the family and friends of Staff Sgt. Eric Ross:
It has truly been my honor to sign Eric's guest book these past few years. Unfortunately, due to complications from my Multiple Sclerosis, this may be the last message I'm able to write. Please forgive me and know that Eric will always be remembered in my home.
