Rabbi Eric B. Wisnia passed away on Friday, September 29, 2023. Eric was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of Cantor David and Hope Wisnia, and was raised in Levittown, Pennsylvania, along with his siblings Michael, Karen, and Jana. He was the devoted husband of Judith Glassburg Wisnia for 52...

Not sure what to say?

Eric "Da Rab" Wisnia, was one of those people who - for better or worse - couldn't help being memorable. Certainly he had a presence, you knew when he was in a room; but more than that, it was what he said. Whether his quips, bad puns, or insights, they were all equally "sticky". I will continue to quote him, for as long as I live; and my children will as well. Frankly, Eric changed me- changed the way I think- changed the way I act. His warm human approach coupled with his fierce...

I just saw news of Eric's passing in the Pennsylvania Gazette! It was sad news. Eric and I graduated from Neshaminy H.S. in 1967 and we both graduated from Penn, he in 1970 and me in 1971. We didn't see each other very often at Penn - I'm sure he was a much more serious student! We knew each other pretty well at NHS through classes and various musical activities. And it was ironic to see that Eric and Judith lived in Dresher, where my family and I have lived for the past 35 years. The...

I've just learned of this through the Penn alumni magazine. We were part of a strange group of buddies there in the late 60's. Even then, Eric had a certain dignity which kept him safe from some of the really immature things going on with that group. I often regretted not seeking him out more, but we all knew he'd become a wonderful rabbi and family man. I have no doubt he's left an enormous gap with his family and the community he served. I've had no contact with him in over 50 years,...

In 1988 I sat on the plane with rabbi Eric on my first trip to Israel He was so kind he said he was a Wisnia, I said me too We realized we were related He will be missed Laurie Wisnia Westwood NJ Daughter of Jaime & Lynn Wisnia

Thank you Rabbi Wisnia for demonstrating true Interfaith love in & for the whole community!

I was so sad to hear of Rabbi Wisina's passsing. I was bat-mitzva'd with Rabbi Wisnia and my family a member of Beth Chaim. What I remember most that I'll never forget, is how he always made services fun, funny and enlightening. Even as a young child, who was often tired and restless in services, he always managed to capture my attention with his jokes, beautiful smile and tender heart. We were lucky enough to see Rabbi Wisnia when he performed my Grandmother's funeral service in 2018. It...

Eric was always going to be a rabbi, no doubt influenced by his father, whom we knew as Cantor Wisnia. I remember Eric from school, Hebrew School and Sunday school. I danced at his Bar Mitzvah. When I encountered him at our high school reunions in 2007 and 2017, he seemed very much the same as I had remembered: good humored, extraverted, intelligent and personable. He also was on those reunion organizing committees--always willing to boost the community. I have no doubt that he was a...

My heart hurts today. Rabbi Wisnia married, my ex-husband and I and in several other ways had a profound and permanent effect on our lives. When he walked in the room, he lit it up with his big smile, and was one of the most loving people. I had the privilege of knowing. We were part of the congregation until we move to Oklahoma when my son was 2 1/2. I will always remember he and Stuart doing Broadway parodies for Purim. He saw the joy in everything, and I will always be grateful to him...
