I knew Eric through Friends of the Chicago River. When I worked there coordinating the Planning Committee, he volunteered to train me about planning and the river, and made sure that I visited sites that we where we were considering a development proposal. Eric was an urban adventurer, and I remember him wearing a suit with his backpack and baseball cap and guiding me through holes in fences and through bridge towers to really investigate a site. It's been many years since I was last in contact with Eric. I remember him as one of the most decent people and dedicated city planners I've ever known. The planning profession and the Chicago River have lost a very important friend. My heart goes out to Lisa and the rest of his family.
