Swartz Funeral Home - Flint Obituary


HEMPEL, Erich G. “Moe” -Of Grand Blanc, age 85, died Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at Genesys Regional Medical Center.


Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Pastor Todd Biermann officiating.


Burial in Crestwood Cemetery.


Those desiring may make contributions to Grand Blanc Senior Center or the Wounded Warriors Project.


Visitation 2-8 p.m. Tuesday and 10 a.m. Wednesday until the time of the service at the funeral home.


Erich was born in Detroit, Michigan on November 6, 1932, the son of the late Erich “Harry” and Ada (Diment) Hempel.

He served in the United States Army.


He was involved with the Grand Blanc Senior Center, President of the Grand Blanc Senior Advisory Council, was an avid bowler and golfer.


Lately he volunteered for Flint Junior Golf Association.


He enjoyed visiting casinos and playing the Keno Tournaments.


Surviving are daughter, Charlotte (Bob) Paul of Huntington Woods;


brother, Carl (Ernestine) Hempel of Grand Blanc;


nieces and nephews, Diane (Dave) Brown, Karen(Greg) Aurand,


Monika (Sam) Awad, Jack (Katherine) Hempel, David (Mari) Hempel,


Erick (Marian) Hempel, Carl Hempel and Robert (Carol) Hempel;


14 great-nieces and nephews; 4 great-great-nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by two brothers, John (Rosa) Hempel and Rudy (Shirley) Hempel and nephew, Bill Hempel.

Condolences to the Hempel Family. Although I did not know your family members I did know and work with you for some time at King Par. It was a privilege to see you a couple years ago at Venus Coney where we had a chance to catch up. You will be sorely missed by many I am sure of that. May you rest in peace.

Sorry to the Hempel Family..especially his brother Carl who I knew. Moe was a nice guy...always had a good story and tips on playing the lottery. RIP Moe!
