She graduated as a registered nurse from Illinois Masonic Hospital in Chicago, IL. Erma did private duty nursing in Chicago for many years. We in the Epiphany Council of Catholic Women and St. Jude Circle were so sad to read about Erma's passing. She was such a large presence in our group and we all missed her when she moved back to Ill. Please know that we will have Masses said for her. We would like to send cards but don't know where to send them. Would you please send that information via my e-mail?

Aunt Erma was certainly an amazing person and quite influential to all of our family. Whether it was teaching us the art of eating Little Debbie Swiss Cake Rolls or the value of hard work by making us pull weeds in the yard, she always showed us that she cared, and did so with a laugh (or a snort, in true Bennett fashion, if you really got her going!). I am so glad that my children had the opportunity to spend some time with her and am so grateful for all of our fond memories.

Someday, maybe over a beer at the VFW in Decatur, I will share with you the obituary Aunt Erma wrote for herself last summer ... I think she knew ... she must have ... she knew enough to make us wear stocking caps to the beach ... We will certainly miss Erma "Kangaroo"

Special memories with Aunt Erma include walks along the beach to the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse, bicycling on a tandem to her house from Maine, watching sparks come out of our mouths as Aunt Gertrude and Aunt Erma chewed on Wintergreen mints while standing in front of a bathroom mirror with the lights out, having a July 4th party where Aunt Erma and Aunt Fran had to sleep on love seats in the living room, getting lost in Decatur when taking Aunt Erma home, knowing that she retired and moved to...

I spent every Easter with Aunt Erma, from my honeymoon in 1965 well beyond the high school days of my children in the mid 90's. I enjoyed the beach and making little repairs. There wasn't much to do though, Aunt Erma, mowed the yard and painted the house right up until she left to go back to Illinois when she was 98. My children especially Kim and Kelly continued to make weekly trips to Daytona after they started to school at the University of Tampa. It was great for them to have a get away in...

To the family of Erma,
My Mother (Edna Overfield and Aunt-Jane Whelan) moved in to Tanglewood in October, 2007 and ate lunch and dinner with Erma everyday. I always loved talking to her and was always amazed with her wit and charm. She was a special lady. And I always got a kick out of her, she always wanted to wear her name tag and was upset if she couldn't find it.
I had dinner with her on Sunday before she went into the hospital, and she seemed well....I was sad and shocked to...

I was truly sorry to learn of Erma' s passing. I knew her through my parents as my late father, Wayne McDonough grew up with her during their childhood. When she and Charles moved to Daytona Beach she would babysit me and I grew to love her as a friend for over 50 years.
My wife and I visited with her shortly before she moved to Decatur and we enjoy spending our time with her. She was a great lady and a great friend and I will miss her!
