Schrader Funeral Home and Crematory - Ballwin Obituary

Reinsel, Erna Marie, Victorious in Christ, 95 of Des Peres, Missouri, died peacefully at home on January 9, 2026.

Beloved wife of the late John T. Reinsel, Jr. ; devoted mother of children Jean (Geoff) Brauer, John D. Reinsel, Tom Reinsel and Frank (Denise) Reinsel; cherished grandmother of Shari (Tyler) Oesterreich, Sarah (Avery) Hjulberg and Matthew Reinsel. Dear aunt, cousin and friend to many.

Erna was born on Christmas day 1930 and was baptized into Christ and made God’s own child at Trinity Lutheran Church in Norborne, Missouri.  Her family rejoices that she is now alive with Jesus forever.

A 1951 graduate of the Lutheran School of Nursing in St. Louis, Erna worked as a registered nurse at Lexington Memorial Hospital in Missouri where she met her future husband, John T. Reinsel, Jr.  They married in 1955, raised four children in Kansas City, later moved to Des Peres, Missouri and actively participated as members of St. Paul’s Lutheran church and school where Erna served as a school nurse.

Erna will be remembered for her most kind, patient and loving nature as well as for her devoted relationship with her grandchildren, her Norborne relatives, and especially with her mother Hedwig (Beckemeier) Moentmann, father Edwin A. Moentmann and brother Earl K. Moentmann. She was a wonderful cook, loved to garden, had a very soft spot for her beloved pets and loved to leave raisins on her windowsill for the birds. She was an avid reader of newspapers, especially those with news of her hometown Norborne community. Always looking for ways she could help, Erna paid loving attention to what was going on in the lives of her family and friends.

She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Not sure what to say?

Mrs. Erna Reinsel was a true friend to my family and I. She helped coordinate funeral luncheon arrangements at the last minute for a Member of St. Paul’s church who had a huge funeral with most of Famous Barr attending. She was there over and over for other
Receptions our family had at St. Paul. During a great time of adjustment she treated me to
a homemade meal and hours of her listening ear refusing to let me help with dishes.
She sent the kindest of words and darling...

Erna was a very special friend to me when I was in Kansas City and it was I of my first teaching experiences. She made me feel like 1 of her family and I will always remember her gracious and loving kindness. God´s blessings to her special family.
