Ernest E. Carleton, 53, of 41 Flat Rock Bridge Road, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at Frisbie Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Hartland, Maine on September 5, 1950, the son of Norman and Jean (Ferland) Carleton. He had been a resident of Dover for many years, moving to Rochester two years ago.

Mr. Carleton had attended Portsmouth High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam era. He was a member of the American Legion in Unity, Maine. He had worked as a computer technician with Conceptronics following his retirement from Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.

He enjoyed traveling to Maine to attend town meetings and the Grange. He also was an avid reader, and enjoyed old music and working with computers.

He was pre-deceased by his father in 1973.

Surviving family members include his mother of Portsmouth; a daughter, Carrie Norman of Clark’s Bluff, Georgia; a grandson, Brian Norman; a brother, Edward Carleton of Jewett City, Conn.; two sisters, Cheryl Asher of Berwyn, PA and Kay Haum and her husband Jim of Strasburg, PA. He also leaves his dear friend, Kathleen Arel of Rochester.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. He will be laid to rest at the New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen. Memorial donations may be directed to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 2680, North Canton, OH 44720.

August 24, 2004. I am sorry to hear of Ernie's passing. I worked with Ernie at Conceptronic. He had many people who thought well of him there. We enjoyed his sense of humor and out look on life. He always had a smile and a pleasant word for me when we conversed at work. He will always be us in spirit.

i was sorry to read about ernest's death. when he was a very young boy his family lived with my family for several months, in kittery. he was a very cute littel boy. his youngest sister was born, while they lived with us. long time ago. my last name was west then.
