Not sure what to say?

Some people make little or no impression, and are easily forgotten. Ernest is unforgettable.

I knew of Ernest from the comments my Dad made as he showed me photos taken in combat during World War II. Thirty years after first seeing those photos, I finally met Ernest at the 951st Field Artillery Battalion Reunion in 1995. Dad had not seen Ernest in 50 years, but they immediately became very close friends again.

For the next 6 years, Ernest and Dad communicated...

I never had the pleasure of meeting Ernest, but I knew him. Ernest was a man who was admired and respected by the man I know, Bart. Ernest was a man I learned to honor and respect just by listening. He has a special place in many hearts from Utah to Montana to Texas and Oklahoma where it all started.

The monument at Ft. Sill is a place where I feel a special peace, a place where I feel close to these special men that I never met, but I know the bond that they had with each other...

I would just like to add to what Bart McCollum wrote that I don't believe the relationship among Bart, Ernest, and me was coincidence. I think it was inspired by Heavenly Father. Bart was an only child; my only sibling was deceased and our mothers gone when our fathers died. The time following our fathers' deaths were greatly eased because of Ernest's wisdom and kindness.

As cousins, aunts/uncles, and friends gathered in Kansas the evening before my father's funeral,I asked Ernest to...

Ernest is a great man.

My Dad, Lt. Leo E. McCollum, served with Ernest during World War II in the 951st Field Artillery Battalion from the invasion of Normandy through the end of combat in 1945, participating in 5 major battles (Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe).

As a child in the early 1960s, I have very vivid memories, and especially as I express my thoughts today, of sitting with my Dad looking at his scrapbook of black and white...

I heard many wonderful things about Captain Chamberlain from my Dad, Jim Klevorn, especially that he really cared about the men. I was blessed to meet him at 3 Reunions of the 951st. He was so nice to me and acted like he had known me for a long time. May he rest with the angels for a life well lived.

Ernie was the last surviving member of THE STUDY GROUP. As children we thought these special friends were our relatives. Our lives were certainly influenced through our association with them and their families.
Congratulations Ernie - Well done good and faithful servant. Love and best wishes to your family.

Captain Ernest Chamberlain 1943

I found these photos today. They were taken during World War II, most likely at Arundel, England prior to the Invasion of Normandy. I can imagine Ernest doing missionary work with my father and others right now.

I had the great pleasure of being Ernie's hospice chaplain. He is one of the best men I have ever known. He made such an impression on me in such a short amount of time. I will never forget him and I will always treasure my visits with Ernie.

My Dad, Bill Paul always spoke very highly of his Captain. I had the pleasure of meeting Captain Chamberlain at a few 951st reunions and will remember him as a kind and thoughtful man. Thank you for your service and taking good care of the men of the 951st. You will always be remembered for bringing them home safely. Rest in peace Captain my Captain.
