Sheldon T. Banks Funeral Chapel Obituary

LEWIS, Mr. Ernest-age 60, of Mt. Morris, passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at McLaren-Flint.  Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Thursday, December 21, 2017 with a 10:30 am family hour at Sheldon T. Banks Funeral Chapel 3021 S. Dort Hwy., Flint, MI 48507.  Rev. Daniel Bridges officiating.  The final resting place for Mr. Lewis is Gracelawn Community Cemetery, Flint, MI.  Calling hours are 1:00 pm - 7:00 pm Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at Sheldon T. Banks Funeral Chapel.

Mr. Ernest Lee Lewis was born February 11, 1957 in Chicago, IL to the late Verda Mae and Joe Lewis.  He was a long time resident of Flint and attended Beecher and Hamady Schools.  Ernest was baptized at an early age at St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church.  He was a member of New Israel Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Daniel Bridges.  Ernest was a delivery driver for Hostess Brand Company in his early years.  He had a passion for cars and motorcycles.  Ernest was an avid sports fan and tried to make everyone else one.  He had a deep love for his family and friends and was always willing to help at any given time.

Ernest was always known for "Just being Ernest" and his many nicknames he had or everyone.   He was known for his sayings such as:  "Whoop there it is" or "You too near me not to hear me" sayings.  Last but not least "Curls for the girls and waves for the babes."  Ernest always ended every phone call with "God Bless".

Mr. Ernest Lee Lewis leaves to cherish his memory: two sisters, Mary (Calvin) Saulsberry of Mansfield, TX, Althea Marie Taylor of Flint, MI; one brother, Joe Lewis of Alexandria, VA; three nephews, Johnathon, Kerry and Brian; two nieces, Aleasha and Sophia; longtime companion whom he loved dearly, Francine "Tammy" Swanson; uncle, James Humphrey of Alexandria, LA; 2 aunts, LaMuriel Lewis of Flint, MI, Reather Perry of Saginaw, MI; special cousins more like brothers Walter and Jessie Collier, The Collier family and special cousins Charles and Rose Kelly; a host of other relatives and longtime close friend, Frank.


Mr. Ernest Lee Lewis was preceded in death by: mother, Verda Mae Lewis; father, Joe Lewis; sister, Victoria Lyles; nephew, Marcus White; grandparents, Pastor Anthony and Rose Humphrey; aunt, Sally Woods; uncles, Anthony, Ernest, Bill, Robert Lee and Pastor J.C. Humphrey.

Well cuz you will be missed!! You always checked on me you always stopped over my house when you was in Saginaw, you were one of my mom(Doris) favorite cousins. I remember when I was younger and used to be with poochie a lot, one of your phrases was curls for the girls and waves for the babes, you will truly be missed, so your journey here on earth is over but we'll meet again!!
