Ernest L. Matlock

I had not been in touch with Ernie since his, and then my, retirement from Butte College, but had a nagging feeling that he might have passed, so I looked for, and found, this obituary notice. Ernie was the best boss I ever had. He was a kind, gentle, and generous man of great personal integrity-an all too rare find in higher education today. I shall always treasure my association with him and his personal support of and belief in me. God bless you, Ernie. "`TIL we meet again."

Coach Matlock´s last year as football Head Coach at YCHS our team saw a switch from Sierra Foothill League to a more competitive North Metro League, mostly all Sac teams. He coached us to a 9-1 League Championship season. His favorite locker-room pep talk quote: "This one´s for all the marbles, men". RIP coach! S Craig Cook, 1970-71 player.

I had coach Matlock in the mid 60s at YCH. Great coach, never did me wrong and was always helpful.

I worked with Ernie at Butte College during the 1970s and 1980s. He was always a good leader, administrator, and "coach." He always supported the presidents, administrators, staff and faculty he served. He will be missed.

Ernie hired me as a Football Coach at Yuba City High School when I got out of college. He lead by example and was a Football coaches Football coach . He was successful at everything he did because of his diligence to duty . May God Speed coach
