Hi Diane, I was in Ernie's first class at Princeton and attended his memorial service in my Reunions jacket. I did not get a chance to offer my sympathy to you that day, but I'm sending to our class recorder that magnificent obituary that I'm guessing you wrote for the Oregonian at the time. Ernie was responsible for me moving to Portland from the SF Bay Area in 1981. I worked for an insurance company that provided McCall Oil and Chemical Company with financing a couple of years earlier, and while sharing a ski-lift during a First Interstate corporate customer ski event to Mt Hood, he asked if I´d ever consider moving to Portland and working for his family. Such a wonderful life Ernie lived! I adored how he wrote his own obit; it was so full of at least two lifetimes of experiences ! I did not know him, yet I so enjoyed knowing of him through his words & his dear wife’s memories! Blessings to your family; Ernie’s special presence will be missed!
