Not sure what to say?

He was married to my cousin Rose Mary, and I remember several conversations with him about history of our family in Socorro. He was the the most kind and interesting man I've ever met. He is dearly missed.

So nice to know that Ernie is not forgotten! I'll never forget his warm smile and hug, such a special person.
My prayers are also for Rosemary and the loved ones he left behind. So much knowledge he loved to share,
could listen to him for hours. We miss you Ernie!

Ernie was a mentor to all of us who knew him. I became an administrator when Ernie was at UNM. Some of the best stories came from his course The History of Education in New Mexico.

I was a graduate student of Dr. Stapleton's and I am saddened to hear the news of his passing. He was a wonderful educator and person in general. I can honestly say that I learned a lot through my classes with him and Dr. Mondragon. I throughly enjoyed the friendship and mentorship that we established. He will be missed, rest in peace.

Ernie is my cousin and I will always remember Ernie's wonderful smile and his kindness shown towards my mom and our family. Before my mom passed on, Ernie and Rose Mary would visit her in Belen. They sometimes took her out to eat or to different events. My mom had commented on what a "caring and loving nephew" Ernie was to her.

Enjoyed knowing Ernie. He wanted yo tell me more about Socorro
Sorry I didn't tAke out the time God bless to all

Ernie was my first cousin and I am one of many cousins who will miss him dearly. He was our "go to person" for any family history questions. Ernie was a very modest and humble man. Reading all of his accomplishments in his obituary, who knew?? Of course, we all knew he was an educator, principal, and superintendent but all the other many other numerous honors...who knew? He never mentioned, bragged or boasted about what all he had been or done. Whenever I visited with him, he wanted...

ENRNIE'S LARGER THAN LIFE SAMILE AND KIND HEART, WILL BE MISSED. I ALWAYS LEARNED SOMETHING NEW ABOUT NEW MEXICO HISTORY EVERY TME WE TALKED. HE WAS GREAT MAN AND EDUCATOR. I'M PROUD TO HAVE KNOWN HIM.
MY PRAYERS ARE WITH ROSE MARY, MY DEAR COUSIN AND ALL THE FAMILY!

Mr. Stapleton was a great educator, mentor, and a willing advisor anytime I needed help or assistance. He made his mark on many students, teachers, and parents during his years at VHS.
