Not sure what to say?

I worked at Joyce's in the summer of 1977, after my junior year in High School, MHS. Ernie taught me to make savory subs, be accountable for the money, and have pride in what we served. The most memorable moment was when. late in the evening of my first shift, he taught me how to mop a floor, correctly. "There is no shame in swinging a mop, you just gotta do it right." And he was right. I learned all this and more. We closed the shop in August of 1977 on the day news broke that Elvis died....

My Dad, Al Davis Jr., and Ernie were life-long friends. They both served as firemen in Red Bank. My Mom spoke to Ernie at length soon after my Dad died earlier this year. Ernie talked about their time growing up together and how much love and respect they had for each other. Whenever my Dad was in town, he always stopped at the sub shop to say Hello and catch up. Ernie and and my Dad remained life long friends and never lost touch. The Davis Family sends its most heart-felt condolences.

Uncle Ernie what a joy you were in our lives we love you so very much. Thanks for all the laughs over tea I had with you at moms.Say hi to dad for me until we are reunited together in heaven. Forever in our hearts.

Ernie was a staple in old lincroft , there's so many fond memories of popping into the shop to grab a sub and a Yoo-hoo ~ as kids growing up in town you knew Ernie was looking out for you~ always a quick smile and a hello for you! A true community fixture. Prayers for comfort to his family during this sad time~

Ernie was the best. He taught us about working hard and doing the job right. The sub shop was a great experience way back in the mid 1990s. He was a great person to be around and has a wonderful family who i have built life long friendships with. I will never forget him.
