WARE, Ernest C. Sr. "Ernie" - Of Flint, age 90, died Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at Maple Woods Manor. Funeral service will be held 12 noon Saturday, August 21, 2010 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Pastor Rick Story officiating. Burial in Sunset Hills Cemetery. Those desiring may make contributions to the Alzheimer's Association. Visitation 4-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Ernie was born in Washington, DC on July 28, 1920, the son of the late Commodore and Pearl (Croson) Ware. Ernie served his country in the United States Army from 1943 to 1945. On May 3, 1943, he married Marjorie Helen Van Nocker and she preceded him in death on October 24, 2007. Ernie was a member of the Moose Club. He played softball until he was 85 years old and managed the Fenton Road Merchants through the 1950's and 60's. Ernie loved playing ball, camping, fishing and traveling with his wife Helen. Surviving are three sons, David and wife Barbara of Davison, Jerald and wife Cheryl of Clio, Ernest Jr. and wife Christine of Newport, Rhode Island; grandchildren, Shellie and husband Todd Stone, David and wife Jackie Ware, Gregory and wife Stephanie Ware, Mark and wife Brianna Ware, Heather and husband Doug DerVartanian; 16 great - grandchildren, Sydney, Mackenzie, Cecilia, Gavin, Jackson, Marianna, Haley, Taylor, Lindsey, Delaney, Skylar, David Edward, Emily, Grace and Caroline, Ethan; two sisters, Shirley Wasnick of Glen Ellyn, Illinois and Millie Zembledge of Chicago, Illinois; brother-in-law, Richard and wife Joyce Van Nocker, many nieces and nephews.
