Ernest Stanley West, Jr.
1961 – 2025
Ernie West passed away on October 19, 2025, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee after suffering a stroke.
His life began in Concord, New Hampshire with his parents Ernest and Dorothy (Wolfenden) West. In his youth, he lived in many cities and states, but always considered Ringwood, New Jersey his hometown.
He lived for his family and worked hard to provide. Over his life he did many things including roofing, managing fast food restaurants and bookstores, shoveling snow, doing janitorial work, setting and cleaning cemetery monuments and markers through his business Granite State Cemetery Services, managing a garden cemetery and crematorium in Texas, and being a stay-at-home-dad.
He was a man of deep faith, raised a Baptist and converted to Catholicism as a young man. Over the years he deepened his faith through study, writing, and prayer. He actively worked to bring folks closer to God and into the Catholic faith.
He was friendly and kind. He loved to laugh and joke. He never held a grudge and encouraged forgiveness, understanding, and hope.
Ernie loved his hobbies and had many interests. He was passionate about reading and learning, particularly history and theology. He was an avid book, stamp and coin collector; these hobbies provide additional avenues of historical exploration and learning. He had a beautiful singing voice, and he played the guitar. He was a lifelong Red Sox and New England Patriots fan.
He was happiest spending time with his family. He loved playing games, watching movies, and talking and engaging with those he loved. Everyone had their own special relationship with him.
Ernie was predeceased by his father, Ernest West, Sr.
Left to continue to love and remember him are his wife, Susan; his seven children Megen, Bridget, Connal (and wife Emily), Aidan, Benjamin, Samuel, and Ernest; his two grandchildren, Mia and Marco; his mother Dorothy, his sister Wendy, his brother Timothy, nieces Luna and Nova; and many cousins and friends.
He will continue to be much loved and missed, and his memory will always remain a blessing.
The family is grateful to Father John Trough for driving from Alabama to administer the final sacraments.
Additionally, we would like to thank Ascension St Thomas Rutherford nurses, doctors, specialists, clergy, and staff who cared for him during his final days. A special thank you to Dr. Steuart, and nurses Kelly and Addy for their exceptional care, compassion, and support during a difficult time.
