Ernestine Smith Lockett was the first born child to the late Roosevelt and Mildred Smith on November 25, 1925 in Pittsburg,Pennsyvania. She passed on May 13, 2013. After marriage, she completed her GED enrolling in college and retiring after 25 years of service at LSU. Ernestine continued to possess a strong desire for learning. She was known for her gift of caring, patience and compassion. She never met a stranger and was always open and available to listen and council others. Her loving memory will be cherished forever by her children: Robert N. Lockett of Temecula California, Mary L. Abadie, Wayne Lockett, Marriet N. Buster, Donna Lockett-Lopez, and Patricia Jones of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She adored her nine grand-children and six great grand-children and will be missed by a host of extended family and other relatives. Her visitation will be at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church 1565 Curtis Street on Monday May 20, 2013 from 9am until the service at 10:30am. Interment will follow at Roselawn Cemetery Baton Rouge La. Arrangements were made with Wilson Wooddale Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family asks that a memorial and /or honorarium be made to the following organization: Hospice of Baton Rouge located at 9063 Slegen lane Suite A Baton Rouge La 70810; Cancer Services of Greater Baton Rouge 550 Lobdell Ave, Baton Rouge La 70806.
