Not sure what to say?

It's been 15 years since we said good bye to Sia. Her grandchildren have grown to become fine young adults, and I'm sure she would be proud of them. We miss you, mom, think of you often and keep you in our prayers. I hope you're Greek dancing in heaven.

In the 1970's I had taken up Greek Dancing. I also attended Christ the King Catholic Church at 32nd & Imperial Ave., San Diego. One Sunday morning after Mass, I noticed a tall, statuesques young woman demonstrating a Greek dance step to another woman. I went up to her and said, "I know how to do that, too." After that, we became friends and shared many interests together. I will miss Ertsie "Sia" very much and I wish that she could have stayed with us for much longer. God love her.

My friend through so many years - since we met as little girls at Alice Birney School - I'll miss your thoughtful take on events from family to the world at large. You were there to celebrate as my bridesmaid and when my children were married. We have had fun, tears, joy, and wonderful memories that I'll cherish all my days.
Dick and I pray for peace and comfort for Hoyt and Jud and your families and to Jack who meant so much to my friend. Love also to Mary and Jo.

My Aunt Sia was a little eccentric, a lot creative, incredibly thoughtful, very smart and witty. I will truly miss the way she tried to help connect me more to my family by sharing stories and memories of my granparents and giving me little gifts of things that had belonged to them and their parents. She was unique and will be sorely missed.

Sia was the oldest of four children. Here she is with her baby sister, Jo, her brother Tommy, and her sister, Mary circa 1950

Sia loved Greek dancing. Here she is with friend Carol Roach, circa 1977

My fondest image of Ertsie was captured in a photo taken circa 1969 on the beach across from the Smith house on Coast Blvd. in La Jolla. Paul Smith was seated in a chair with a squirming imp of a Jud in his lap; John had long Bobby Sherman locks; Ertsie stood erect, a long cool lady, as dark and mysterious as the ocean roaring at her back; her beauty commanded your attention. This is how I will remember Sia.
