Ervin Rohwer

Ervin Earl Rohwer, 83, of Rigby, died at Life Care Center of Idaho Falls on Saturday, March 28, 2015.

Ervin was born April 18, 1931, in Parker, a son of Irl Adolph Rohwer and Eudora Pearce Rohwer. He attended

Rigby High School and Weber State University.

On June 1, 1956, he married Venice Baugh in Wellsville, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan, Utah, LDS Temple on July 29, 1957.

He worked as an electronics engineer for KIDK-TV Channel 3 and the FAA. He owned a laundromat in Rigby and maintained the equipment at other laundromats from St. Anthony to Idaho Falls. While working for the Federal Aviation Administration in the 1960s and 1970s, he invented and designed systems still in use today, especially in back-county airports.

He served on the board of directors for Rigby Senior Citizens Center. He was an amateur ham radio operator W7ZAD. He enjoyed fixing/building anything with electronics or metal, watching old time television shows, playing the accordion, guitar and harmonica in a country band and working with metal. He will always be remembered by his family as a big jokester and good storyteller. His family and friends also considered him a "jack of all trades."

He is survived by his wife, Venice of Rigby; a daughter, Janet Peterson; four sons, Lonnie Earl Rohwer of Billings, Mont., Byron Baugh Rohwer of Idaho Falls, Darrell Ervin Rohwer of Arimo, Idaho, and Paul Wynn Rohwer of Nampa, Idaho; a sister, Alice Crittenden; 20 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

His parents; a daughter, Julie May Rohwer; and two brothers, Reese and Winford, preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 4, at Rigby 4th Ward LDS Chapel, 401 W. First S., in Rigby. The family will visit with friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 W. Main St., in Rigby, and one hour prior to Saturday's services at the church. Burial will be in Rigby Pioneer Cemetery.
