ERWIN R. BUCHWALD

When I first started working for SOHIO around 1980, Erwin was my supervisor. His first direction was to drive to the Toledo Refinery and solve problems (and buy them lunch to grease the wheels of cooperation); pretty self directed instructions but he was a self directed problem solver, independent thinker and quite a character himself. One funny episode; he was teaching a class and was demonstrating the pour point of a crude oil sidecut and was showing how it was solid at room temperature....

Dear Buchwald Family, please accept my sincere condolences. Erwin was a great resource and technical mentor when I worked at the Lima Refinery for the Standard Oil Company. My colleagues and I often reflect upon our work (and lessons) from Erwin. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.
