Estelle A. Owens Edwards, 97, of Wilmington, died Wednesday, October 18, 2017, at Autumn Care of Myrtle Grove.
She was born August 12, 1920, in Wilmington, to the late Robert Emmett Owens and Julian Burriss Owens.
Since her husband, of 32 years, Bob Edwards, was a 20 year veteran of the US Air Force, Estelle spent many years traveling with her family throughout the United States.
Estelle was a caring and supportive wife and mother, a beloved daughter, sister and caring grandmother, great-grandmother and a good friend to many.
She had the love of three families throughout her life: her own family, her church family and her Autumn Care family.
Estelle was a lifelong member of United Advent Christian Church where she had participated in the Ladies Prayer Group, the Frances Toothe Circle, Young at Heart Senior Group, Sunshine Ladies Sunday School Class and had cooked for the Men’s Fellowship for many years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert P. Edwards; son-in-law, Jack Wooten; brothers, Robert Owens and Napoleon Owens and sisters, Selisece Bell Williams and Frances Davis. She was also preceded in death by her best friend of 90 years, Gladys Hewett.
Survivors include her children, Sandra Mills and husband Dave of Summerville, SC, Beth Wooten of Currie, NC and Bob Edwards of Stuttgart, Germany; grandchildren, Kristy Beaulieu and husband Chris, Bryan Mills and wife Ashley, Mara Wooten, Lorena Berube and husband Bryan, Alex Edwards and Carrie Edwards; great-grandchildren, Tai David Beaulieu, Finley Dickens, Sullivan Mills, Rhett Beaulieu, Kali Beaulieu, Caroline Beaulieu, Noelle Beaulieu and Teagan Mills. She is also survived by her many treasured nieces and nephews.
Those wishing to view Estelle may do so between 1:30-2:30pm, Wednesday, October 25, 2017, at Andrews Valley Chapel. The family will not be present.
A celebration of life will be held at 3pm, Wednesday, October 25, 2017, at United Advent Christian Church. A visitation with the family will follow the service in the church fellowship hall.
A Graveside service will be held at 11am, Thursday, October 26, 2017, at Wilmington National Cemetery.
The family would like to express their appreciation, gratitude and love to the staff and caregivers at Autumn Care of Myrtle Grove. Estelle often expressed to her friends and family how kind and compassionate her Autumn Care family was. She loved them all.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to United Advent Christian Church, Lower Cape Fear Hospice or The Good Shepherd House.
