Esther Clauson, formerly of Piedmont Avenue, died on Feb. 10, 2008. She was born and raised on a farm south of Aurora, Minn., and has been a Duluth resident since 1941. She was preceded in death by her husband, George; her parents, Isaac and Selma (Niskala) Laulunen; sisters, Vienna (Albert) Douville and Linda (John) Fisk; a brother, Arnold (Lorraine) Laulunen; a daughter-in-law, Joni; and nephews, James (Jan) and William Laulunen. She is survived by three sons, David (friend, Bette Ruskanen), Dale (friend, Margie Sundquist), and Gary (wife, Diana), all of Duluth; seven grandchildren, Kimberly (Miles) Thomas-Froberg of Duluth, Rachel (Jason), of Duluth, Amy (Lauren) Rood of Barnesville, Minn., Joshua, of Evanston, Wyo., Gina (Craig) Nordeen of Blaine, Minn., Jon (fiance, Lindsay Donnelly), of Superior, Wis., and Julie (fiance, Ian Smith) of Duluth; four great-grandchildren, Jessica, Cassidy, Bradyn, and Garrett; four nephews, Gerald (Margie) Oja, Clarence (Peggy) Douville, Thomas Laulunen, and Paul (Karla) Laulunen, all of Duluth; and three nieces, Alice (Phil) Cormier of Wakefield, Mich., Brenda Douville (friend, Kathy Capra) of Minneapolis, and Darlene Laulunen of Redwood City, Calif.; long-standing family friend, Thomas (Elaine) Palmer and Margaret Kinetz, of Duluth. SERVICES:will not be held at Esther's request. A private family memorial gathering will be held this summer. Arrangements by Williams-Lobermeier Funeral Home. Interment at Sunrise Memorial Park.

I remember your mother very well when I was a paper carrier in my teens. She was very kind. One can clearly see that she raised a wonderful family.
