Not sure what to say?

Dr. Gwinnell was an intricate part in my husbands recovery after tbi in Afghanistan brought him to her in Landstuhl, Germany. She listened to her patients and their families and truly cared about helping. She was wicked intelligent, a kind soul.
I am so sad to hear she left this earth. She made a difference in helping our injured soldiers returning from war.
There is pain in her loss. The world seems a bit more lonely knowing she's gone. Forever grateful.

Just now seeing this obituary for the first time. I was a patient of Esther's for the better part of eight years, just up to her departure for Germany. She was enormously helpful to me, as I was juggling severe bipolar type I, addiction issues, a crumbling marriage, and a stressful career. If there is one thing I think she taught me the importance of more than anything else, it is honesty. Honesty with others and, perhaps more important for me, honest with myself. She had absolutely zero...

So sad to see this. I was a patient of Esther's for a number of years prior to her work in Germany. She is one of two therapists with whom I have really connected, and she helped me make a quantum leap in understanding myself and functioning in the world in which I find myself. I will carry her warmth, wisdom and humor within me forever.

I was Esther's roommate during part of medical school, and also knew her in high school in Anchorage. I'm so sad to hear this news. Esther was one of a kind, and a true creative spirit, and a great dancer! We had so much fun together, she taught me a lot, always spoke her truth and lived true to her values. Here's to you Esther!

I was a classmate of Esther's at Reed and enjoyed her friendship while there, especially as inhabitants of the German Dorm. She was a woman of conviction and her humor and humanity always shone through, I'm so sad to hear of her passing.

I met Esther at Reed College in 1973 when we both lived in the German dorm there. We remained friends until her death with many happy adventures together in between. Esther was one of those people who did whatever she set her mind to well. She was intellectually brilliant, emotionally astute and artistically gifted. We lost a wonderful person when Esther left us. Rest in peace dear friend.

I first met Dr. Gwinnell at OHSU in the first year of psychiatry residency, and then became reacquainted many years later when we were both providing consultations to Standard Insurance. She was always a good person to talk with and she will be missed. My deepest sympathies to her family and friends.

I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Gwinnell at Standard. I knew her to be a very competent physician, as well as a great role model for all women. Her intelligence, independence, confidence had a great impact on me, and will be remembered always.

Remembering a great trip to Mexico with Esther and Mark many years ago. She was great fun.
