It was with great sadness that I learned Esther passed away. I was a graduate student in the Medical Microbiology Department at Stanford University in the early 1970s where Esther was an Adjunct Professor. I remember Esther as a kind person always willing to encourage and to provide support to the students. Over the past year I reestablished contact with Esther at her home on the Stanford campus. I am glad I did. I will miss Esther.
