Not sure what to say?

Recently there was a meeting at the Birmingham Historical Society and they were trying to identify houses in an old photograph. The homes in the photograph were near 32nd Street South/33rd and Clairmont (near where Piggly Wiggly is now). I realized that if Ethel was still with us, she could have identified those houses because she grew up near that location. She was a special lady.

I had just met Ethel , I don't know where, because my college roommate, Libba Thomas was going to marry John Owen .. I learned that she was a crafty person that helped I believe at Winnataska 'I liked listening to her talk. She was not shy. She made me one of her little baskets. I still have it. She was a remarkable lady.

I met Ethel in the late 70’s through Alabama Designer Craftsmen. She was the epitome of an inquisitive artist; always trying and becoming proficient in many media. I am the proud owner of several of her split oak baskets, gourds, and pine needle baskets. I also have the split oak baskets that she helped my sons make many years ago. I eventually became close friends and neighbor of Libba and John and our kids grew up playing together. Ethel will be missed but she led a life of accomplishments...

She is a wonderful friend of over 50 years and I miss her. We had so many fun adventures together and this is one of my favorite pictures from our winter trip to Sun Valley.

Ethel was the very definition of what it means to be a friend. Honest, loyal, smart, and so much fun, she set the bar. I will always miss her.

In loving memory of a wonderful person. We will love you and miss you always.
One of the best physical therapists , artist , and person.
Yes you have had fun and your genuinely warm heart touched so many.

Ethel Owen was one of the finest people I have ever known. I have already been missing her. She was always an outpouring of love.

Ethel was my gourd mentor. I met her thru Alabama Designer Craftsmen. She was always teaching and encouraging me with my gourd art. I drove us to Montevallo several times for our patch meetings. We both had health care backgrounds in common as well. I enjoyed my visits were her in Crestline. I will always treasure her pine needle basket she gave me. Please keep me posted on her memorial.
