Not sure what to say?

Dr. Somberg was a mentor and a friend. I was fortunate to have had her in my life. Her influence on my career choice was profound. I will always remember her with love and respect. I would like to express my deepest sympathy to her family.

Ethel was a wonderful person and a great colleague. She was the type of professor who genuinely cared about students and was a popular teacher of a difficult subject. When I last saw her about eight years ago she was still an active and engaging person. I know there are many former students who will be saddened by news that she is gone.

Ethel was a supportive and welcoming colleague to me in the department. She also invited us over to her Frank Lloyd Wright house when we moved to Maplewood. A sweeter and warmer colleague did not exist. She was also part of the faculty women’s organization that filed charges of sex discrimination against Rutgers in the early 70’s and won us raises and retroactive pay. I am glad that she lived as long as she did, and hope her passing was peaceful.
