Eudelia (Velia) Moreno Villarreal, beloved mother and grandmother, entered peacefully into the kingdom of heaven, surrounded by her family, on July 22, 2015 at the age of 83. Velia was born in San Antonio, Texas to Tomas and Alberta Moreno on October 8, 1931. She is preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband of 45 years, Robert G. Villarreal, their grandchild, Christina Marie Barron, sister-in-law, Rafaela Moreno and brother-in-law, Mike Ortiz.
She is survived by her daughters, Sylvia V. Deosdade and husband, John R., and Anna Marie Barron and husband, Christopher; son, Robert Villarreal, and wife, Brenda; brothers, Raul Moreno and wife, Esperanza, and Tomas Moreno; sisters, Hortencia Ortiz, Jovita Santos and husband, Danny, and Nieves Estrada and husband, Jesse; grandchildren: John Robert and wife, Jennifer, Adrienne and husband, Bill, Robert Joseph, Amanda and husband, Matt, Alexandra, Ryan, and Madilyn; great grandchildren, Laney, Charlie, and Leighton; loyal friend, Sergio Obaya; and numerous extended family of nephews, nieces, and friends whom she dearly loved and treasured.
"Velia" as she was affectionately known, was a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She proudly worked for Miller Curtain Company, retiring after 22 years of dedicated and loyal service. She was an avid gardener who was admired by all her neighbors for her bed of roses, flowering trees and other ornamental plants and let's not forget her manicured lawn and hand trimmed edging that she did every week until she became ill. She loved to listen and dance to her favorite Mexican artists especially her dear brother, Raul, Tejano accordion musician. She looked forward to watching her nightly "Novella's", spending days with her dear friends at Holy Family and her close circle of Wellmed Senior Center friends especially her knitting club where she proudly made hats, scarfs, baby booties, blouses and ponchos. She looked forward to Christmas and showering us with her hand-made gifts. She was well known by her family and friends for her baking of ojarascas and other Mexican reposteria's. She took great pride in baking her three children's wedding cakes from scratch and most recently participated in the baking of 70 dozen cookies for her grand-daughter's wedding reception. But most of all she loved being surrounded by family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
On May 22, 2015 our sweet Mom was diagnosed with a stage IV Astrocytoma Brain Tumor. As a family we united and held her hand through this two month journey which took us on a rollercoaster ride. Yes there were some sad days but we actually experienced more happy days that we will forever cherish in our hearts. So, although we shed tears for our loss, she showered us with 62 days of love, strength, courage, stories, life lessons, laughter, smiles, tears of joy, and most of all reminded us of our faith in our Lord through her example and ministry. Not one day went by that she did not stop to give thanks for a wonderful day during our nightly novena to St. Peregrine, the patron saint for persons suffering from cancer or other illnesses. She ended her novena with the following, "Dios Padre, todo poderoso. Te pido por mi salud y te pido que me das las fuerzas y el valor para que sequir adelante, si es tu voluntad, en este mundo, Amen." She prayed for courage and strength, should it be his will, to carry her forward in this beautiful life. Through this entire journey she never complained of pain and her only concern was for her family, friends and everyone she met along the way. Everyone she touched remembers and commented about her beautiful spirit inside and out, her sweet personality, bright smile and most of all her devotion to her faith and family. Her presence in our lives will be dearly missed but forever cherished along with our beloved dad who went home June 22, 1993. Our hearts rejoice as she now joins him in forever eternity after 22 years – they have been re-united and are dancing in heaven.
