Eugen was a wonderful and positive influence on the University and Chapel Hill, and me, as a young faculty member interested in theory. When our son took a course in physics (on his way to becoming a crystallographer) he came home to dinner one day, and described how he had met this most fantastic person who was working at the physics help desk that day--of course, it was Eugen.
