Eugene Guy Bates1939 - 2014Sunday night was one of those sultry Summer evenings that make you wish for a cool summer rain, or a chilly mountain breeze. Maybe the fish were rising, or a moonlit Harley ride sounded inviting. We don't know exactly why Bates left us that night. We only know by...

Not sure what to say?

Lou, my heart is breaking for you. Even though I didn't see "Big Gene" very much, he held a special place in my heart also. Bates was a special part of my family and I will miss him. He's with the rest of the family waiting to tease me as he always did. Our prayers are with you and your family. Thank the Lord we know that this is not the end!

Lauan- We only got to know you and Bates for the short we lived on Monterey Circle, but during that time, I am very happy that I got to know Bates. He was a wonderful person that we will miss. I was looking forward to seeing him this fall in SG. Sorry that he left soo soon.

LouAnn and Allison, we are so heartsick for you. Bates was always so kind to our family. He was an exceptional person and will always be remembered fondly. We are aching for your loss and pray that you will receive comfort from our Savior in those lonely moments. I keep thinking of Bates and Zak together and believe that there is truth in those thoughts. We send our love.

Luann, Took me a few days to do this again. We miss Gene and will, always! We will remember each time a motorcycle passed. Gene would always rev his motor as he paused in our driveway just to raise Rick's dander. It was always a good laugh. He was always teasing me about out doing him in our yard work. Giving me trouble over my sick "Charlie Brown" plumb tree. Many good memories and good times where had together. Still, if you need to borrow any tools, advice, or a bit of laughter, we...

LouAnn, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. It is so difficult to lose your spouse. I pray you and you family will find peace and comfort in the eternal promises of a loving Heavenly Father. Cherish your many memories.

One of my oldest friends LouAnn my heart is with you and yours I will miss the Bates man we walked our wild youth together and walked different paths through our older years but our friendship always stayed true.

Gene took me fishing at Lincoln Beach on Utah Lake. It was his secret spot along with his secret bait. He said the catfish loved shrimp so we stopped at the store and bought a bag of precooked shrimp to use as bait. I was sitting in the back seat with the "bait" and needless to say I love shrimp so I ate it. By the time we got to Lincoln Beach the bait was gone. He was so mad. Every time he seen me after that he would bring up the bait fiasco and laugh. I loved his laugh and his smile after...

LouAnn & Allison,
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this time. I have so many great memories of "Bates" growing up. We lived on Monterey Circle and "Bates" was known as the "Handyman of the Neighborhood",if anything needed fixin he was always there.

LouAnn: I know that God is watching over Gene and your family. Please know that I am thinking of you. If Beverly comes into town, please have her call me.
