Gene - Sept 13, 2005

Dear Boudin family,
I met Gene outside his home in early Sept 2005. I am a volunteer emergency response chaplain and was working with the Salvation Army in the French Quarter distributing supplies for the residents when we met. Over the next few weeks Gene became my friend. He was charming, sincere, had a positive outlook, & was such a gentleman even throughout that most difficult month after the storm. Gene was also a wonderful neighbor to those who remained thru the hurricane as well as to those who had left as he watched over their homes & helped those around him. On my trips back there after that month I always looked forward to getting together with Gene as would my husband. We would go to his favorite restaurant and then go back to his place & talk for hours. I will also miss Gene’s beautiful courtyard as it was a peaceful haven. On my last trip to New Orleans my husband encouraged Gene to seek a specialist’s opinion about his shoulder & arm. Before we left his place that night Gene was encouraged & wanted to play us a short piece on his piano. It was a treat I still treasure, not so much for what he played or how beautifully he played it, but because I could see how much he loved to play & how hopeful he was to be able to play again. Gene has taught me much & I will truly miss him. I look forward to seeing him again in heaven some day.

Please accept our heartfelt sympathy for your loss.

Dear Gene, we're glad we did get to see you and talk to you last Friday. For we had no idea that it would be the last time we would see one another within this plane. We will miss your presence in the Tremé neighborhood. We will miss your friendship and your spirit. We will miss a good neighbor. Katja and I send our deepest condolences to your immediate family and friends. May your soul be blessed throughout eternity.

Your friends,
Leroy & Katja

Dear Cousains,
I am so sad about Gene. He was such a fine man and exemplary Christiann. Talented and kind beyond measure. He inspired goodness in others. I remember going to Mardi Gras with y'all, it was so cool. And when all of the Boudins would come over for big family dinners. And he loand us a huge book of Boudin paintings after he went to France. I'll always have a tender place in my heart for him and your family. You will be in prayers and I will be thinking of you during this sorrowful time. Love Murrel Boudin deVeer

To The Family of Gene,

Unfortunately I never got to meet Gene but talked to him manytimes since before Katrina, I met him from my potbelly pig ad in the New Paper All he ever did was tell me how much he loved Hoover. And I just found out about his passing away. And I was very Heart Broken. He was a find man and loved to talk my ear off on the telephone but I truly enjoyed talking about our pigs. And I'm very sad that I wasn't able to share one of my babypiggies with him. Gene will be very much missed..

A golden heart stopped beating, a determined spirit was at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best! Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family in this sad time. God Bless You All

Gene was a wonderful friend to my husband, Al & me. Hope Gene is in heaven playing the piano for the angels to sing along with my honey, Al, to the George M. Cohan medley. I have fond memories of Gene playing the piano so beautifully.

Madeline:

I learned of Gene's passing from Betty Dupre' Eble. After meeting and being in Gene's company the one time at the Dupre' family reunion in 2002 in Belle Rose, he became a person I would always remember. His great personality and immediate friendship touched upon me greatly. God bless Gene and with heartfelt sympathy to you and the rest of your family.

What began 32 years ago with the sharing of a piano developed into a wonderful friendsip and sharing of music, art, life and family. I am so fortunate to have been a part of Gene's life and will feel his spirit with me forever.
