Eugene J. Brandt, 90, Minot, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 18, 2019 at Trinity Hospital in Minot.
Eugene Brandt, son of Reinhold and Rose (Ehlke) Brandt, was born June 4, 1929 on the Schroeder farmstead near Kramer, ND where he grew up and attended country school.
On June 11, 1950 he was united in marriage to Ardella Michalenko at Kief. He entered the United States Marines in January of 1952 and served his country during the Korean War. Upon receiving his honorable discharge in January of 1954, they made their home in Kief where he managed the Kief Elevator for several years. They then moved to Minot where Eugene worked for Northern Bottling Co. and later Fairmount Creamery before accepting a position with Old Dutch Co. where he was employed for 28 years before retiring.
Gene was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and loved to hunt. He especially enjoyed spending time at his "happy hunting grounds", the Butte area. He was an active member of the Lawrence E. Meidl American Legion Post #270 of Butte for 42 years. His family all felt that the last celebration of his life should be held in the place he held so dear to his heart.
Gene is survived by his devoted, loving wife Ardella, with whom he celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary this past June. He is also survived by their three children who he and Ardella have loved and supported and who felt fortunate to call them their parents, their daughter Wanda (DeWayne) Scherr of rural Hazelton and two sons, Ronald (Kathy) Brandt of Mandan and Jeffrey (Wendy) Brandt of Bismarck. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Eleanor Troop of Oklahoma and Margie Miltenberger of Arizona.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers, Marvin, Orville and Glenn.
