Not sure what to say?

Michael, sorry to hear of your dad's passing. We worked together at the BPU.

Gene was always happy ,big smile ,sorry I missed his funeral, may he rest in peace.......

Betsy and I were saddened to learn of Gene´s passing . He was a friend to all, always with an observation and a smile. He was proud of his heritage and had a passion for all things Irish. We will say a special prayer for our goof friend.

Cub scouts in Montclair is where I first met Gene. I remember an event in the basement of the Union Congregational Church that was fun-but then it was cleanup time and without any prompting or request Gene took the broom and started sweeping. Wow! He told me the good Sisters taught him that is what you do. When you see something that must be done-do it! It was always fun to see Gene and talk to him. A class act man who is truly missed. My sincere condolences to you.

Michael, our thoughts are with you at this very difficult time. Please accept our deepest sympathy. "Ar dheis De go Raibh a anam dilis" Slainte, Louis, 0live & Elaine Byrne

Mr.Byrne I can´t think of a single Callahan celebration for the last 50 plus years you did not attend . You were truly the only Republican my mom Betty Callahan ever loved ! You have been one of father Ed Callahan´s most cherished friends . Like the good Irishmen you are you were always last to leave the party . Rest in Peace and May the Road Rise to meet you .....you know the rest . Slainte !

Gene was the epitome of a true Irish gentleman. We differed totally politically but considered him a dear friend. Many memories - loved that he carried his personal pepper mill; make the perfect - perfect Irish Manhattan; knew the words to every Irish song and loved how he would get the staff at the Madison Hotel bring him the ingredients for Irish coffee so he could prepare them properly at the IACI balls! My condolences to Michael and Gene's many friends

Byrne Family, My family moved to Montclair in 1949 and I immediately became a friend and classmate of Gene's brother Bill. So, I also befriended Gene as we hung out on Brookfield Road. When the Byrnes moved to Gordonhurst Avenue we often hung out at that house, because Mr. and Mrs. Byrne (Joe and Helen) welcomed us. So, it became easy to get to know Gene even better. Gene and Bill were not at all alike. Bill was an athlete and then a salesman. Gene was into law, and I had many...

Gene and I have been friends since 1967/when Gene worked for John McGeehan and I worked for John Clancy . Many good lunches in the Ironbound and many good times for over fifty years at the Guard of Honor and the Friendly Sons. Great times with Ginny ,Michael and Sheila. I was very proud to be an Aide to the Grand Marshall of the Newark St Patricks Day Parade. I have lost a dear kind and special friend and a Grand Irishman. Ed Callahan
