Eugene H. "Gene" Cassidy

I remember Gene and Nancy from our Literacy Tutor training, I believe in the 80's. In a class discussion on the benefits of literacy, Gene observed that readers have access to the accumulated knowledge and greatest thinking of humanity while non-readers must rediscover and reinvent these by dint of their own ingenuity. I never knew Mr Cassidy, but I am sure the pillars and scaffolds he built and worked with in his past life will be waiting for him in his next and eternal journey. It is simply amazing the things one person can do for the world around them... I believe Gene was a classic in those areas. May you rest in Heavenly Peace Mr Cassidy, you deserve it.

George and I met Gene Cassidy when he was working at the co-op. I was also briefly in a writer's group with him. We always enjoyed talking with him. He was so humorous and so gentle! We talked about our daughters (both his daughter and our daughter are journalists), local politics, and Brazilian BBQ places on Cape Cod. Bill and I are so very sorry to hear of Gene's passing. He was a unique, creative and brilliant guy. Our deepest sympathies to Maggie, Charlie and Nancy.
