Dear Irene,
When I saw the notice in the paper it brought back a very dear memory for me. Many years ago I worked with you and Alice at the bakery on 14th and Stark. I was new in the working world and often have thanked you two for being so very kind and thoughtful for me. As a result of your 'training' I've had a wonderful life filled with blessings. I just want to say thank you and God bless. You can be assured of my love and prayers as you go through your loss of dear Eugene. Much...

I am so sad that Uncle Gene has passed on. I will always remember the many fun times we had when he and Aunt Irene and my cousins, Steve, Gary, Doug and Sue would visit us at our "farm" in the country. Uncle Gene would immediately grab one of the recliners (a much-desired chair which Doug would try to steal from him if he got up) and request a cocktail from his sister, Dolores (my Mom). I will always remember my uncles sweet, soft smile, the twinkle in his eyes that often came right before the grin...I will remember him calling me to his knee when I was little, whispering in my ear how much he loved me, and prompting me to pick him as my "favorite uncle"...I remember him bringing...

"Eugie" is my uncle and godfather. I never met a quieter, kinder, gentler man. I believe that we do not "die"...that our spirit lives on. I believe that we will meet again and that Eugie will be around all of us who loved him until that time comes. I know he is now with his parents, brother and sister and I'm sure friends who have passed as well. I can almost see him playing a round of golf on the greenest of green courses. Until we meet again...you will not be forgotten and I love you...

His sister, Esther, and her family are deeply saddened to get this news. Some of my fondest memories of Uncle Gene are when we visited Portland when I was a child and watched him play baseball at Fremont Park.
