Gene was one of the kindest, sweetest, happiest people I have ever met. He always greeted me with a hug and big smile and was always interested in what I was doing and how my kids were. I feel very lucky to have known him. He always made me feel as if I had a place in his family. My deepest sympathies to the whole family.

My heartfelt condolences to the family - I know what a loss this is to you all. I only knew Gene for such a short time but I became very fond of him. We made two great trips together and shared many laughs (his pockets were always full of something and his pants were almost to his ankles at the Rome Airport Security check-in) and interesting stories (he told great stories). We kept in touch, which was mostly his doing. Gene gave real meaning to the term "Greatest Generation" and everyone...
