Eugene L. Deml, 90 Eugene L. Deml, lifelong resident of Owatonna, died August 3, 2017 at Traditions II in Owatonna. Mass of Christian Burial is set for Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at 10:30 am at Sacred Heart Catholic in Owatonna. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may greet the family on Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2017 from 5: 00 – 7:00 pm at the Brick-Meger Funeral Home (1603 Austin Road, Owatonna) and one hour prior to the funeral liturgy at the church. Eugene was born on September 1, 1926 in Owatonna Township of Steele County in the farmhouse of his parents Louis and Mary (Jirousek) Deml. Gene went to country school, St. Mary's and graduated from Owatonna High School. Eugene was united in marriage to Genevieve Beese at Sacred Heart in Owatonna on October 15, 1949. Following marriage, the couple farmed together on Gene's family farm until retirement and moved into Owatonna in 1985. Gene continued in his retirement years to help on the family farm and enjoyed many hours working in his woodshop building many projects for family and friends. He enjoyed following the Minnesota Twins, playing cards with family and friends, and always whistling to easy listening music as he worked. Gene was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Church. Gene will be missed by his three children: Linda (Mike) Drahota of Brooklyn Park, MN; Richard (Becky) Deml of Portland, OR; and Robert (Shelly) Deml of Owatonna. He is further survived by grandchildren Dustin Deml (Fiancé Jessica Masching), Terry (Sarah) Deml, and Jenna Deml; step-grandchildren Bryan and Brandon Drahota; and sister-in-law Marge Deml. Gene was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Genevieve, sister Eleanor Stransky, brothers George and Milo Deml.
