Every sympathy to Gene's survivors from one of his boyhood friends. Gene was a great and adventurous friend whose humor and loyalty were precious. We last saw each other after a 30-year interval about 20 years ago, and as is sometimes the case, we connected with ease and enjoyment, despite the passage of time. Our paths diverged over the years, but Gene's warmth and directness were unchanging.
