Read MoreStopped at the north plains memorial a few weeks back. Looking over the bricks and seeing Gene's memory piece was the first I had heard he left us. I can't picture Gene without twice the energy and enthusiasm for Bees and bee stories. Always smiling. Still is, I'm sure. [email protected]

My heart goes out to the entire family. I have always treasured my time as a child visiting Uncle Gene and his delightful farm, which I thought of as a mini Disneyland. Such good memories. Every encounter I have had with Uncle Gene has always left me smiling with his warmth, humor and quick wit. I am a better person for having him in my life and I will miss him greatly.
