James A. McAlister Cremation Obituary

Eugene Dewey Foxworth III died December 15, 2013, at the age of 58, after a courageous 22-month battle with a brain tumor.
Foxy was born in Beaufort, SC, on December 18, 1954, the son of Elizabeth Mullins Hubbard Foxworth and Eugene Dewey Foxworth Jr. He graduated from Middleton High School in 1973, where he was an All-Lowcountry linebacker and a Palmetto Boy?s State representative, and from the College of Charleston in 1977, where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order. Following his graduation, Foxy served five years in the United States Marine Corps as an Infantry Officer in the 3rd Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Brigade in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii before reaching the rank of Captain. From the Marine Corps, Foxy joined US Lines as a sales representative in Boston, MA. In 1984, Foxy joined Merrill Lynch in Charleston, SC, where he was a stockbroker for 25 years. The past five years of his career were spent at Morgan Stanley.
Foxy was a member of St. Philip?s Episcopal Church for over forty years and served on the vestry and as a member of the Men?s Ministry. He served as camp commander of the Fort Sumter Sons of Confederate Veterans and chairman of the board of Trident Academy. He was a member of the Society of Colonial Wars, Hibernian Society, St. Andrews Society, Carolina Yacht Club, the Charleston Club and the Centurion.
Foxy was an avid outdoorsman and sports fan. Most weekends you could find Foxy at his farm in Greeleyville, SC, preparing for hunting season or an oyster roast. If he wasn?t in Greeleyville, you would find him at his home, affectionately known as The Birdyard, working in his vegetable garden. He is fondly remembered for his Carolina Gamecock tailgates, but they serve as only one example of Foxy?s gracious hospitality. In all that he did and to everyone he met, Foxy was a gentleman, a friend, and a spirited soul. He will be missed and toasted by friends and family throughout South Carolina ranging to the West Coast, as well as some of those still serving our country overseas.
Foxy is survived by his wife of 30 years, Rosa Cantey Heyward Todd Foxworth, his son, Eugene Dewey Foxworth IV, his daughter, Heyward Boykin Foxworth; three sisters, Elizabeth Foxworth Fritz and her husband, H. Laurence Fritz Jr., of Spartanburg, SC, Julia Mullins Foxworth of Charleston, SC, and Christine Foxworth Reilly and her husband, Robert Michael Reilly, of Mt. Pleasant, SC; as well as nine nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at 11 o?clock on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at St. Philip?s Episcopal Church in Charleston. Interment will follow at Magnolia Cemetery. Friends may also call on the family at their residence on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 from four to six o?clock.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke, DUMC Box 3624, Durham, NC 27710 or St. Philip?s Church, 142 Church Street, Charleston, SC 29401.

Not sure what to say?

Words are inadequate to express our sorrow at Gene's passing. Have read the guest book and it doesn't leave many descriptions left to describe Gene's many talents and the many good deeds he spread around to his friends, clients and peers. We were clients but he almost made us feel like family. We had tremendous trust and respect for the gentleman that he was. We know that as his family you have many adjustments to make and many precious memories to reflect on. We will be praying for you now...

I was blessed to meet Papa Gene, Colonel Foxworth and Foxy and I am so sad to learn of Foxy's passing. My deepest sympathy to the Foxworth family.

We served together in BLT 3/3 and hunted and fished together over the many years and watched our families grow up. He was a wonderful friend, amazingly considerate and always cheerful. I will miss him greatly. My deepest sympathies to his lovely family.

Cantey...Dianne and I are so sorry for the lose of Gene. He was my oldest friend, close to fifty years. I'm so glad that we all had the time to get together and have dinner, and of course, remember our childhood. He now joins the ranks of some of the finest of our families. God Bless him and all of you. The Kersey

My condolences go out to the entire foxworth family. I am truly sorry for your loss.

Dear Cantey and all of your family, especially your sister and my dear friend, Elizabeth,

I had the honor of talking with Foxy several times over the past year - what a wonderful man even in all of his time of fighting his battle with cancer. Your deep love, compassion, and supportive attitude was always evident each time I saw you two together. Our prayers for strength are with you all. Earl and Jenny Brown

Dear Cantey and all the Foxworths,
