Eugene Gettys Obituary

February 17, 1926 - May 19, 2017 Eugene (Gene) Edward Gettys, passed away in his home, May 19, 2017 at the age of 91. Born February 17, 1926 in Santa Monica, CA. Gene graduated from Verdugo Hills High School in 1944. He served in the army and was stationed in Germany at the end of WWII. Gene worked for Edwards Airforce Base for 37 years as a civilian experimental airplane testing photographer/videographer. Gene was married to Carol Anne Hawley for over 49 years, before she passed away in 2010. Gene was healthy and independent to the very end. He enjoyed walking his dog every day. Gene is survived by his nephew John Gettys (Susie) and niece Nancy Gasaway (Jim) and great nephew David Peek and great nieces Lisa Larson (Phillip), Jennifer Arrouzet (Todd) and Melinda Nielson (Brandin) and many great, great nephews and nieces. He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, John and Helen Gettys and his brothers John (Jack) and Jimmy. "Gene was beloved by his family, friends and neighbors and his gentle nature and kindness will be greatly missed. Viewing will be June 14, 2017, 4-7pm, at Glendale Funeral Home 511 S. Central Ave, Glendale, CA and his graveside service will be June 15, 2017 at Riverside National Cemetery at 11:45am.
