Not sure what to say?

I just learned of Gene's death. Gene and I roomed together my freshman year at U of Northern Iowa. He was wise, compassionate, and had a wonderful sense of humor. I've tried a couple of times to get in touch with Gene, but nothing ever came of it. I'm truly sorry that he is gone. I have often thought of Gene and wondered what happened to him. Though we've been out of touch for 50 years I've continued to think of Gene as a wonderful friend. We never know when someone will pass on....... Roger...

Dear Mrs. Hakanson---Gene was a colleague of mine for the 20 plus years I taught at PSU. As you will remember I spoke briefly at his memorial. I'm sorry I did not get to speak to you personally. I am very sorry we lost Gene---he was a great counselor and a fine human being. I recently lost my wife of fifty one years. If you wish any support please let me know. You can get my phone numbers from the Dept. of Communication at PSU, or the PSU retirement association. My very best to you and the...

Gene was my supervisor at the Counseling Center during my internship (through the School of Social Work) for my master's in social work, in 1974-75. I have felt great sorrow since reading of his death and look forward to joining in the service tomorrow.
Even though decades have passed since then, it happens frequently in my work with clients that I find myself remembering a piece of advice or wisdom from him, an example of his humor and sense of perspective, and his...

It has been almost 20 years since I've seen Gene. He was very helpful during a difficult time in my life and I will always be grateful for his compassion and wisdom. He was a great guy.

My thoughts and prayers are with Gene's family. Although I didn't know him very well, he always had a few minutes to share a good word when our paths crossed. I'll also always remember that he was the sharpest-dressed guy who ever walked through the park blocks!

DR Hakanson was one of the most empathetic, non-judgemental, caring men I have ever known. My sorrow in loosing him is very deeply felt. Sandra, I am so sorry for your loss.

Ron and I will miss his great cooking, his sharp wit, his keen intellect, and his skinny legs atop inline skates. He was a classy guy in every respect. We love you, Sandra, and we look forward to many more years of wonderful times together.

Sandra, What beautiful words that describe such a fun loving person as Gene. He is no longer suffering, but watching down upon you in everything you do. The memories will forever be with you until the day that we are called to be an angel in heaven like Gene is now! My thoughts and prayers are constantly with you. Pam Newton (Palm Springs)

Dear Sandra;

Gilbert and I were stunned to read of Gene's passing. Our loving thoughts are with you at this time. We consider it an honor to have known Gene...he was a great friend and neighbor.
