As I indicated seven years ago...when I was a new young Judge in the late 70's and early 1980's Gene took me under his wing by sharing with me some of his common sense approaches to the toughest cases we get .those in family court. Later we worked on some state committees, including a forms committee -way before everything was put on computers. Dear Joe, Andrea, Dan, John, Margaret, Steve and Families,

I was saddened to learn yesterday of Uncle Gene's death. Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers. I have the deepest admiration, love and respect for all of you. I miss you and think of you often with affection.

Gene was such a marvelous mentor who showed not just good judgment, but also compassion and common sense as he approached his very difficult work on the bench. As I enter my 36th year on the trial bench I think back fondly to our shared work and interest on various committees we worked on to improve the judiciary. His knowledge of the law was keen; his ability to read people -lay person or lawyer alike- was just as keen.
